Jk urges police officers to go for cyber technology training

President Jakaya Kikwete has underscored the need for police to be trained in cyber technology to enable them fight fraud and other international organized crimes.
Kikwete made the call on Thursday when closing training for police officers held at the Tanzania Police Academy in Dar es Salaam.
He said international gangs were using the latest technology in committing crimes, adding that police need to be conversant with cyber technology or else criminals would outsmart them.
The president said it was imperative for police to be equipped with the latest technology through training to counter methods of organized crimes.
He said organized criminals always take advantage of police laxity to commit crimes.
The president said he was aware that police were ill-equipped, but said that the government would continue to equip them so that they can fight crime.
President Kikwete promoted 291 police officers who graduated the training to the rank of Assistant Superintended of Police, and urged them to be honest to the country and avoid taking bribes.
Speaking earlier on the Inspector General of Police Said Mwema said the Police Force was determined to work professionally to fight crimes.
